Snowfall and rain bring temperatures down across State

Snowfall in some of the mountainous regions and light rain in various parts of the State brought down the temperatures considerably in the State on Monday. The maximum temperature in the provisional State capital Dehradun dropped by six degrees Celsius to 14.1 degrees Celsius resulting in a chilly and cloudy Monday which also witnessed trace rainfall. Similar drop in temperatures was witnessed in various other parts of the State. The light rain and snowfall is likely to continue in parts of nine districts on Tuesday.

According to the State Meteorological Centre, very light to light rainfall/snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, Champawat, Dehradun and Nainital districts with dry weather likely to prevail in the remaining districts. The provisional State capital is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with possibility of thundercloud development/very light to light rainfall in some areas.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 18 degrees Celsius and six degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Monday were 14.1 degrees Celsius and 6.7 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 20.8 degrees Celsius and 4.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 10.3 degrees Celsius and 3.8 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 7.8 degrees and four degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Apart from trace rainfall in Dehradun, there was 3.5 millimetres rain in Naugaon, three millimetres each in Kedarnath and Kalsi and two millimetres in Nainbagh.

Meanwhile, snowfall was witnessed in various parts of the State including the Chakrata region of Dehradun district and the Gangotri-Yamunotri regions of Uttarkashi district. Snowfall began in various higher reaches in the Uttarkashi district on Monday afternoon while rainfall was reported in the valley areas. District magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht directed officials to remain alert, ensure swift reopening of closed roads and adequate machinery and other resources in vulnerable areas.

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) the minimum temperatures recorded in the various districts were 4.4 degrees Celsius in Pithoragarh, three degrees Celsius in Almora, 5.9 degrees Celsius in Rudraprayag, two degrees Celsius in Uttarkashi, 10 degrees Celsius in Pauri, 2.2 degrees Celsius in Bageshwar, 4.5 degrees Celsius in Champawat, 11 degrees Celsius in Udham Singh Nagar, 4.7 degrees Celsius in Nainital, 6.5 degrees Celsius in Haridwar, nine degrees Celsius in Chamoli and three degrees Celsius in Tehri.
