A woman’s body was found in an abandoned house in the Chunabhatta area near Sahastradhara crossing in Dehradun on Monday. The deceased was identified as Shivani Thapa (28). The body has been sent for post mortem examination to find out the exact cause of death, police said.
Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal said that the body has been sent for post mortem examination and the investigation is ongoing. According to the preliminary investigation, the possible cause of death appears to be a drug overdose.
According to family members, the woman had been missing from home for the past three days. The family had been searching for her but could not find any information about her whereabouts. The woman’s husband works as an auto-rickshaw driver and the couple also has a child aged about four years.
According to information, both the woman and her husband were addicted to drugs and got married about three years ago. Family members said that the woman had returned home from a rehabilitation centre about 15 days ago. She had been admitted to the centre in the past too. However, according to the family, she relapsed and started taking drugs again after returning home.
During the investigation, police found several marks on her hands, which suggest that she may have been injecting drugs. Police suspect that the woman might have died due to a drug overdose. However, injury marks were also found on her head, which has raised suspicion of murder. Police sources said that the exact cause of death will be known only after the post mortem report. The deceased woman’s mother has also raised questions about the easy availability of drugs in the Chunabhatta area. She said the family had earlier informed the police about drug related activities in the area. Police have started an investigation and are trying to find out the exact circumstances of the woman’s death.
