Somnath Swabhiman Yatra flagged off

As part of the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv, being organised by the Union Ministry of Culture, the additional district magistrate Pankaj Upadhyay flagged off a group of selected devotees from Udham Singh Nagar district for the Somnath Dham in Gujarat.

He said that the Parv is being organised to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the first recorded attack on the Somnath Temple and the 75th anniversary of the temple’s reconstruction.

As part of this national campaign, the Uttarakhand government is organising a series of pilgrimages to Somnath Dham in the state for devotees to connect directly with India’s rich cultural, spiritual and historical heritage.

He explained that diverse groups of women, young professionals, students, senior citizens, volunteers, beneficiaries of various government schemes, academics, scientists, technical experts and social workers have been included in the yatra.

He further stated that during the pilgrimage, devotees will participate in Somnath Temple Darshan, Somnath Sankalp Samvad, light and sound shows, bhajan evenings, flag marches, maha aarti, discourses and cultural programmes.  

The ADM stated that extensive arrangements have been made for the pilgrimage, prioritising the convenience, safety, and health of the pilgrims. Medical teams and essential medicines have been arranged for the pilgrims.
