Congress leader Jasbir Kaur Anand alias Sonia Anand, considered close to former minister Harak Singh Rawat, has denied allegations of cheating an elderly man in a property deal worth Rs 45.20 lakh in Dehradun. The dispute involves Hariom Sehgal, who has lost both his hands and has alleged that he was not paid the agreed amount despite the registration of his house in the buyer’s name.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, Anand called the allegations baseless. She claimed that she had paid the entire amount to Sehgal and his wife. She also alleged that Sehgal was now trying to blackmail her. She said that she had also cleared around Rs seven lakh in dues that Sehgal owed to other people and had documents to support her claims.

Meanwhile, superintendent of police (City) Shekhar Suyal said that the police had received a complaint and would verify the facts before taking further action. He clarified that no FIR had been registered so far. The investigation has been assigned to the SP City.

According to Sehgal’s complaint, he sold his house in Khurbura locality to Anand through two sale deeds on June 21, 2021. He alleged that two cheques worth Rs 25.20 lakh and Rs 10 lakh were taken back on the registration day. Later a cheque of Rs 31 lakh bounced on August 20, 2021, due to insufficient funds. Sehgal said that a cheque bounce case was initially filed in Nashik and later transferred to Dehradun in 2024. Two cases seeking cancellation of the sale deeds are also pending in court.
