The State Sports minister Rekha Arya instructed the sports department officials to ensure that the sports infrastructure in the State, including stadiums, remains ready for hosting the national and international-level sports competitions. She inspected the ongoing construction works at various sports facilities at Golapar in Haldwani on Wednesday.
Arya first examined the repair and reconstruction works going on in some parts of the Golapar Stadium damaged by a natural disaster last year. She also assessed the progress of the AstroTurf Hockey Stadium being built in Golapar and stressed on its early completion. She also inspected the football ground, Taekwondo facility, multipurpose hall and swimming pool.
Arya said that while the State’s sports legacy policy is currently being developed local school children should be invited to practise in these facilities.
She further said that all the stadiums and sports facilities should be maintained while conforming to the required standard for hosting national and Asian championship-level events. “Preparations involving the proposed Sports University in Golapar should be speeded up so that its foundation can be laid on August 29 observed as National Sports Day,” she added.
