After the family of the victim expressed some apprehensions in the Uttarakhand nurse rape and murder case despite the arrest of one accused, the senior superintendent of police of Udham Singh Nagar Manjunath TC formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday to investigate the case from all the angles. The 33-year old victim was reported missing on July 30 and her body was later found on August 8. She was a nurse in a private hospital in Rudrapur. She was raped and brutally murdered on July 30 while returning from her job whose body was found over a week later dumped in a vacant plot in Dibdiba village, Uttar Pradesh, as per the police. The police arrested the accused, Dharmendra, who worked as a labourer in Udham Singh Nagar’s Gadarpur area, from Rajasthan on August 13. He was sent to jail on August 14 based on CCTV footage and physical evidence. However, the victim’s family has reportedly raised certain concerns regarding the investigation in the case, Manjunath said. Considering this and to ensure thorough investigation to make the case stronger against the accused in court, an SIT has been formed that will work under the supervision of the superintendent of police (City) Manoj Katyal, the SSP said. He has directed the SIT to conduct an in-depth investigation into all aspects of the case, ensuring a high-quality forensic examination of the evidence.
