In latest news from Uttarakhand, the State’s first signature bridge is coming up at Narkota on the Rishikesh- Badrinath National Highway as part of the much-touted all- weather road connecting Char Dham. Those working for the project informed that the texture of the 110 meter-long bridge is its principal attraction and it will be glowing in night. The work on this project has been continuing for the past 11 months and what is left is the construction of two pillars. Notably, the construction of this bridge has remained mired in land disputes since the time the work started. Though pillar construction work towards Rudraprayag town is progressing, the same in the Srinagar part is getting hindered by land dispute. The designs of the pillars had to be changed twice. Besides, two workers were killed as the iron shuttering of the under-construction bridge collapsed in Rudraprayag district on July 22 2022. Subsequently, fresh soil test was conducted in December 2022 and the design was altered thereafter. The work resumed in January 2023. A senior officer associated with the project said that with work going apace, it would be finished by May 2024 and thereafter it would be opened for traffic movement.
