State’s first organ bank to be established at GDMC: Rawat

Health minister, Dhan Singh Rawat informed that the State’s first organ bank- the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), will be established at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital. During a review meeting of the Medical Education department held on Friday, he directed officials to take necessary actions for the establishment of this organ bank.
Officials presented plans for setting up SOTTO in the meeting. Rawat said that the first organ bank in the State is being established at GDMC and all formalities are currently underway. He said that Dr Atul, head of the department of Anesthesia, has been appointed as the nodal officer responsible for coordinating with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) and the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) to facilitate the establishment of the organ bank.
Rawat also encouraged individuals interested in donating their organs or bodies to register at GDMC or visit the SOTTO website. Additionally, he urged officials to enhance medical facilities for patients at the medical college and encouraged each faculty member to voluntarily adopt a tuberculosis (TB) patient. He said that a blood donation camp will be organised at the medical college soon, a milk bank for newborns will be established and arrangements for an e-library and digital lockers will be made available for medical students.
