Statues of goddesses Nanda & Sunanda to be opened for Darshan today

Statues of goddesses Nanda and Sunanda were made from plantain stems by a team of folk artists as part of the nine-day 123rd Ma Nanda Devi Mahotsav organised by Shri Ram Sewak Sabha here on Saturday. The Pran Pratishtha of these idols will be done early on Sunday morning after which they will be placed for Darshan.
Various programmes were held as part of the festival on Saturday. A number of students participated in a folk song competition and quiz.
Meanwhile, the Nainital Hotel and Restaurant Association donated 151 dustbins as part of efforts to keep the city clean. These were presented to the Nainital municipality especially for the Mahotsav and will be placed in the Mela area to provide a clean ambiance for devotees and tourists. Municipal council chairman Saraswati Khetwal and executive officer Rohitash Sharma thanked the association for the contribution.
The occasion also saw inauguration of shops in the fair area where all resolved to keep the area plastic-free. MLA Sarita Arya, sub divisional magistrate KN Goswami along with Shri Ram Sewak Sabha head Manoj Sah, general secretary Jagdish Chandra Bawadi and other office bearers were also present on the occasion.
