The former Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) central vice-president Ashutosh Negi has been booked for allegedly making an objectionable social media post about the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The case was registered at Pauri Kotwali police station on a complaint by Uttarakhand Scheduled Caste Commission member Rajesh Singh Raja Koli.
As per the complaint, Negi shared a post claiming that CM Dhami was of Nepali origin. The complainant alleged that the post had made caste and religion-related remarks sans evidence.
Police said that a case has been registered against Negi on charges of using indecent language on social media, adding that such content could create confusion among people and affect social harmony.
A police officer privy to the details of the case said that an investigation into the disputed post has started. “We will check the account from which it was shared, its original source, the claims made in it and how widely it was circulated,” he added.
