January 27 to be celebrated as UCC Day: CM Dhami

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Day will be celebrated in the State on January 27. Interacting with the media persons during his Nainital visit on Saturday, the CM said that January 27 marks completion of one year of implementation of UCC in the State and many programmes across the State will be organised on the day. He said that ahead of the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2022, he had promised the people of the State that if re-elected, the BJP government will implement UCC in Uttarakhand. This promise was fulfilled and it reflects the commitment of the government and the respect it has for the constitutional values.
On January 27, Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to implement UCC in accordance with the spirit of article 44 of the Constitution. The CM said that the UCC has proven to be a historical and far reaching step in the direction of ensuring women empowerment, social equity and security for all the citizens. He said that the people of the State have actively cooperated in the effective implementation of UCC as a large number of registration for marriages, divorce, will and other provisions were done.
Responding to a question on human- wildlife conflict, the CM said that the State government is taking effective steps for concrete and long term solution of the issue. Steps such as wildlife management, security measures, providing immediate relief and setting up compensation systems are being taken and monitoring in sensitive areas is also being strengthened.
Responding to a query on traffic jams in Nainital, the CM said that a large number of pilgrims and tourists visit Manaskhand region due to which there is a pressure on traffic.
Work on projects such as bypasses, alternative routes, road broadening and parking is underway and efforts are being made to give relief to the general public and tourists from frequent traffic jams.
The CM said that the Char Dham Yatra is the most important Yatra of the State in terms of tourism, religious and cultural points of views. He said that every possible effort will be made to make the Yatra safer, arranged and convenient for the pilgrims.
