The subcommittee constituted by the Uttarakhand government is unable to positively consider the issues of the outsourced employees of Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL). This was stated by the protesting contractual UPNL staff on Wednesday after the meeting with the members of the recently formed subcommittee. According to the president of the UPNL Employees Union, Kushagra Joshi, the State government held a meeting with all the members of the subcommittee on Wednesday including the two representatives of the union, Hemant Singh Rawat and Vinod Godiyal. Joshi said that the officials representing the government in the meeting made it clear that they would not consider the issues of the protesting outsourced employees unless they withdraw their strike and return to their jobs.
“The officials in the meeting even stated that the protest and hunger strike of the UPNL employees does not affect the State government in any way. The subcommittee was formed on the orders of chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat to consider our issues. It has been 12 days since the subcommittee was formed and 46 days since we began our protest but we are still being forced to return to our jobs first. We have stated many times that until the government takes concrete decision on our demands, we will not withdraw our protest,” asserted Joshi. The general secretary of the union, Hemant Rawat said that they are optimistic that the CM and the ministers would take positive action on the demands of the contractual UPNL employees. Besides, the four protestors continued their indefinite hunger strike on the second day too at the protest site in Ekta Vihar here.
