Sunday marked by rain, hail & gusty winds, orange warning issued

The weather took a drastic turn yet again in Dehradun and other parts of the State on Sunday with rain coupled with hail and gusty wind bringing the maximum temperature more than five degrees Celsius below normal to 29.4 degrees Celsius in Dehradun. Trees were felled by the gusty winds and electricity supply was disrupted in many areas in the provisional State capital during the rough weather. The outlook for Monday is similar with the State Meteorological Centre issuing an orange warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/hail/intense to very intense spells of rain/gusty winds (40-50 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts. A yellow warning has also been issued regarding the possibility of heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain/ gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining mountainous districts. Further, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms/snowfall (at altitudes of 4,000 metres and above) are likely to occur at most places in all districts of the State today.
Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly cloudy to generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain/thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/hail/ gusty wind (40-50 kmph) likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 31 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Sunday were 29.4 degrees Celsius and 19.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 30.6 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 20 degrees Celsius and 9.1 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar, 18 degrees Celsius and 8.4 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. There was 19.8 millimetres rain Dehradun, 15 millimetres in Mukteshwar, 13.4 millimetres in Mussoorie, 8.5 millimetres in Pithoragarh, 16.5 millimetres in Jageshwar, 12 millimetres in Haldwani and nine millimetres in Srinagar.
