Surprise food safety drive launches in Haldwani

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Haldwani
The department of Food Safety launched an intensive inspection campaign in Haldwani to check for adulteration and quality of food items. The departmental team conducted surprise inspections at several establishments dealing in dairy and milk products and during the inspection, samples of cheese and ghee were collected and sent to the state-run food laboratory for testing.
During the campaign, a vehicle traveling from Bazpur to Haldwani was stopped and samples of the cheese and ghee being transported in it were collected. Additionally, samples of two particular brands of ghee were collected and sent for lab testing.
The department officials stated that the quality of the food items would become clear only after the lab test reports of the samples are received. “If the report reveals violations of standards, action will be taken against the food businesses concerned as per the regulations.
The department’s action was taken in compliance with an order issued under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The teams also inspected products that could be mistaken for dairy products,” said an officer.
The department sources further said that such surprise inspection and sample collection drives would continue in the district to provide safe and quality food items to the consumers.
