Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK) organised a Human Rights Day outreach programme on Wednesday at a school where Van Gujjar and other economically unprivileged children and women were informed about human rights. The session focused on raising awareness about basic human rights through interactive activities, role-plays and discussions, the organisers said.

RLEK volunteers performed a series of short role-plays highlighting everyday issues related to children’s rights and women’s rights. These included the right to safety in public spaces, the right to file complaints without fear, access to healthcare, legal support without discrimination and other protections guaranteed under law.

The volunteers said that they were enthused by the children’s active participation and their eagerness to understand human rights.

After the awareness activities, women and children took part in human-rights-themed games and quizzes, where students conveyed messages on equality, dignity, freedom and safety through drawings and teamwork-based activities.
