With the rising demand for theme-based weddings, the costs associated with wedding venues have increased by an average of 15 to 20 per cent, the wedding point owners said. The month of October not only marks the beginning of the festive season but also the wedding season. It has been noted that themed events such as Haldi and Mehendi have become more popular among individuals as a way to display their status. In light of this trend, an owner of a wedding venue in Dehradun has expressed concerns, attributing the surge in theme-based weddings to the influence of social media.
Wedding point owner Alok Mittal said that the wedding venue business suffered a significant setback due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the past two years. However, as the financial situation of individuals has improved and enthusiasm for weddings has returned, business has once again picked up. He added that despite the recovery of the wedding point business, expenses have risen by an average of 15 to 20 per cent due to people’s demand for theme-based wedding venues. Earlier, one decoration was used for every event, but now each function necessitates new décor according to the theme. He emphasised the need for individuals to adjust their budgets according to their desired wedding experience.
Another wedding point proprietor, Manish Nath acknowledged that expenses for theme-based weddings have indeed increased. In light of this, the profit margin for hosting such weddings has decreased by about 10 percent. This is because people desire theme-based weddings but are reluctant to pay additional costs for these customised events, he added.
“”I have been coordinating weddings for the past ten years and have witnessed significant changes in the way weddings are arranged over time. With the rise of social media, people now expect weddings to feature theme-based concepts, elaborate decorations, gourmet cuisine, and much more. As a wedding planner, I have noticed a surge in expenses to meet these evolving demands, which has impacted our profit margins,” said another wedding point owner Ramesh Ahuja.
