Three accused arrested for armed robbery in CSC

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The police arrested three men in the wee hours of Monday for their alleged involvement in a robbery at a common service centre (CSC) in Bhagat Singh Colony of Raipur area, following an encounter in the Ranipokhri area. They were reportedly returning to Dehradun to get their share in the loot from their accomplices. In a Press conference in Dehradun on Monday, the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that a gang robbed Rs 70,000 from the CSC at gunpoint. The police investigation revealed that the robbery was planned by Dilshad (26), who had prior knowledge of the financial transactions at the CSC. Singh said, “Dilshad had been in Dehradun since 2012 and was running a food business. He had come into contact with Manjeet, the brother of Arun Pal, the owner of the CSC, through loan-related discussions. Dilshad, being aware of the cash transactions at the centre, collaborated with Sahil (22) to plan the robbery. Sahil then involved his uncle Kamil (50) in the plan. Further, Sahil contacted two individuals from Delhi, Mohit and Rahul, whom he had met during court hearings in a separate case.” He said that on the day of the incident, Sahil travelled from Bijnor while Mohit and Rahul arrived from Delhi. They met Dilshad in Dehradun and before executing the robbery, Mohit allegedly stole a scooter from near the railway station. The three then proceeded to the Jan Seva Kendra, where they carried out the robbery before fleeing in different directions. The stolen money was divided among them, with Sahil leaving his share with Dilshad. Kamil, who was aware of the plan, travelled with Sahil to Dehradun to collect his share but was intercepted by the police. The SSP said that the police, upon receiving information about the suspects’ return late on Sunday, launched a search operation across different police jurisdictions. “The suspects, riding a white scooter, were spotted in Rishikesh heading toward Ranipokhri in the wee hours of Monday. When stopped at Virpur turn for checking, they attempted to escape. A chase ensued, leading them to a rough terrain near Mansa Devi Temple, where their scooter skidded on rocky ground. The suspects fled on foot into a forested area. During the chase, one of the suspects fired at the police. In retaliation, the police fired back, injuring Sahil in his leg and arm. Kamil tried to escape but was caught later in the nearby forest. The police recovered a country-made pistol, four live cartridges, two empty shells, Rs 25,000 in cash and the stolen scooter from them. Sahil is currently under treatment,” he said. Singh stated that several cases are registered against Sahil including a murder case in Delhi and robbery in Bijnor as per investigation so far. He said that Sahil reportedly committed his first murder when he was 17. The police are now searching for the remaining two suspects, Mohit and Rahul, who are still at large, as per SSP.
