Three youths were taken into custody by Dehradun police on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a young woman near Brew Cafe at Chandrabani Chowk in the Patelnagar area. The incident took place on the night of February 4, when the woman had gone to the cafe with her friends to celebrate a birthday. The three accused have been identified as Pankaj Rawat, Himanshu and Suraj Rana.
According to the police, a fight broke out between two groups outside the cafe after a party. During the argument and scuffle near the parking area, the woman named Mahi, a resident of Gandhi Gram, suffered a head injury. Her friends took her to the hospital for treatment. Police said that the woman was not directly involved in the fight. She was injured when her friend and the cafe owner tried to stop the fight, and she was accidentally hit on the head with an object. Some of the youths involved fled from the spot after she was injured.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, a case was registered at Patelnagar Kotwali under relevant sections of the law. Acting swiftly, the police detained the three accused,
