Woman seeks action against bus driver after husband’s death

A woman has approached the Rajpur police station here seeking legal action against a bus driver after her husband died in a road accident. The woman, Kanchan Devi, said that her husband Kaushal Das worked as a daily wage labourer and was living in the Chalang area of Dehradun.

According to the complaint, the incident took place on January 12 near the Pacific Golf Estate area on Sahastradhara Road. Kaushal Das was returning from Sahastradhara by bus when he tried to get down as the bus stopped. At that moment, the bus driver allegedly started the bus suddenly and at high speed, fearing another bus coming from behind. Due to the driver’s negligence, Das fell from the bus steps and came under the tyre, suffering serious injuries. He was taken to the Government Doon Medical College hospital where he died during treatment on January 14. Rajpur police got the post mortem examination conducted along with other legal formalities after his death.

Kanchan Devi said she had gone to her native village in Bihar for her husband’s last rites and returned to Dehradun later to file the complaint. She has demanded strict legal action against the driver of the bus involved in the accident. Police said the matter is being examined and further action will be taken as per the law.
