Tourism department issues monsoon advisory for tourists & pilgrims

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Tourism department has issued a monsoon advisory for tourists and Char Dham pilgrims, urging them to take precautions while travelling in Uttarakhand during the rainy season. Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) deputy director Amit Lohani told The Pioneer that the visitors should check weather forecasts and road conditions before starting their journey, as heavy rainfall can trigger landslides, road blockages and traffic disruptions in several parts of the state. The department has advised pilgrims, particularly senior citizens and those with existing health conditions, to carry essential medicines and keep their medical records and identity documents handled during the Yatra. Tourists have also been encouraged to book accommodation in advance and follow directions issued by authorities.

Lohani said that real-time information on weather conditions, landslides, road closures and other emergencies is being shared by the Police and Disaster Management departments through SMS alerts, WhatsApp groups and other communication channels. Registered pilgrims receive these updates directly on their mobile phones. He said that Uttarakhand has witnessed a high influx of tourists and pilgrims this year, especially during the Char Dham Yatra. With the monsoon season not far, the department has appealed to visitors to remain alert, stay updated on weather advisories and plan their travel accordingly. The advisory is being circulated through both online and offline platforms to reach as many visitors as possible.
