MCD reviews waste collection, user charge recovery and sanitation work

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) held a review meeting to assess sanitation work, door-to-door waste collection and user charge recovery in the city on Monday. Chairing the meeting, municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey reviewed the status of Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) in different parts of the city and discussed measures to prevent fresh garbage accumulation at such locations.
The commissioner directed sanitation inspectors to maintain regular monitoring and ensure timely cleaning of vulnerable spots. The progress of door-to-door waste collection and waste segregation at source was also reviewed. The officials were asked to improve collection efficiency and encourage households to separate wet and dry waste before handing it over to collection vehicles.
The municipal commissioner also reviewed the performance of SHGs involved in collecting user charges from households and commercial establishments. Presentations were made on the best and lowest-performing groups, while collection trends from past quarters were analysed. Pandey also interacted with SHG representatives and discussed issues related to field operations and collection. He directed officials to address genuine concerns and improve the transparency and efficiency of the system.
The municipal commissioner stressed the need for better coordination between sanitation staff, supervisors and SHGs to strengthen cleanliness efforts and improve waste management services. Deputy municipal commissioner Tanveer Singh Marwah, assistant municipal commissioner Rajveer Singh Chauhan, chief sanitation inspectors, sanitation inspectors and representatives of self-help groups (SHGs) involved in waste collection and user charge recovery also attended the meeting.
