Traffic Directorate to assist all districts in improving traffic system

The Home secretary Shailesh Bagauli directed the activation of the Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) system and the installation of automated red light signals at intersections to ensure smooth flow of traffic in cities. Besides this, the Traffic Directorate will assist all districts in improving the traffic system. Bagauli held a meeting with the Police, Transport and other departments and agencies concerned regarding traffic management in the State, especially in Dehradun and other major cities. He instructed officials to prepare both short term and long term plans to resolve traffic issues. He emphasised that all departments concerned must work together to formulate and implement a comprehensive action plan. He said that the Traffic Directorate will work towards improving traffic systems across all districts. He said that it is important to utilise modern technology to reduce traffic congestion. He stated that the work done by other institutions and agencies in the field of traffic management should be studied and incorporated into the state’s plans. He also instructed the identification of new parking spaces in heavily congested areas and the construction and paving of new roads. He also emphasised on the need for stricter enforcement to ensure that commercial establishments like malls and restaurants utilise their parking spaces effectively. He also instructed authorities to designate mobile vending zones for street vendors to ensure smoother traffic flow. Bagauli also directed the activation of the RLVD system which will mostly operate in automated mode to allow the traffic flow system to learn and upgrade itself. He also directed to maintain continuous coordination with the Smart City’s integrated command and control centre to address traffic issues effectively.
