Following chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s instructions to audit school buildings after the recent school building collapse in Rajasthan, the Transport department will begin an audit of school vans and buses to assess their safety standards in Dehradun. The Dehradun regional transport office has prepared a special audit form for this purpose.
The regional transport officer (Administration) of Dehradun division Sandeep Saini said that the department’s teams will visit schools where buses are registered and carry out inspections based on fixed safety parameters. If any school vans or buses fail to meet the safety standards, the department will issue notices and take action against their permits. He also informed that the audit form is almost ready and the department’s teams will soon begin the audit process in schools across the region.
He said that there are hundreds of schools in Dehradun and a significant number of children rely on school vans and buses for daily transportation. In many areas, especially on the city outskirts, private vans also operate without proper monitoring. Keeping in mind the safety of school-going children, the Transport department is taking this initiative seriously.
Saini said that this audit is a crucial step in identifying and eliminating risks associated with unsafe or poorly maintained school vehicles. After Dehradun, the department plans to gradually introduce this audit process in other districts of Uttarakhand as well to ensure uniform safety standards across the State.
