Transport Dept halts e-rickshaw dealer logins to regulate sales in Dehradun

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Transport department has suspended the login access of all dealers except two agencies to address increasing issues caused by the growing number of e-rickshaws in Dehradun. This move aims to control the sale of e-rickshaws in the city and reduce congestion, especially in central and high-traffic areas, the regional transport officer (Administration) of Dehradun division Sandeep Saini said.

He said that the department has found that a significant number of e-rickshaws are being sold through unauthorised dealers, leading to unmanaged growth and traffic problems. He stated that the transport officers’ teams are currently inspecting city areas and taking action against those violating the guidelines. During recent checks, authorities seized several unregistered e-rickshaws operating in the city.

According to Saini, vehicles sold through unauthorised dealers have been contributing to the rising number of e-rickshaws and restricting sales to only two registered dealers is intended to address this issue. The department has also instructed that no passenger is allowed to sit beside the driver in three-wheelers like Vikrams.

Saini stated that drivers have been told not to permit front-seat passengers and the traffic police will take action against violations. This rule has been introduced to ensure smoother operations of public transport and reduce obstruction during movement in key areas, he said. Despite previous bans, officials continue to observe the sale of new e-rickshaws across the city.

Saini said that strict enforcement will continue and legal action will be taken against any dealers or buyers found violating the new restrictions.
