The State Transport department has generated a revenue of more than Rs 1,500 crore in the financial year 2025-26, achieving 99.60 per cent of its target revenue of Rs 1,606 crore. Notably, the department has achieved an increase of about 9.20 per cent compared to the previous year, marking a significant achievement for the department.
According to officials, achieving 99.60 per cent of the revenue target set by the Uttarakhand Government places the Transport department among the few departments that are nearing 100 per cent of their targets. They emphasised that it is one of the leading departments in this regard.
Despite facing several challenges in revenue collection during the financial year 2025-26, the department successfully met its target. The officials added that for instance, sales of new vehicles slowed compared to previous years. While vehicle sales had increased by 8.45 per cent in 2024-25, this figure declined to 7.52 per cent in 2025-26. Nevertheless, the department still experienced a revenue growth of approximately 9.20 per cent.
Officials also said that various relief measures provided by the Transport department to the public adversely impacted revenue growth. For example, road tax exemptions for electric vehicles resulted in a revenue loss of around Rs 83.07 crore. Additionally, lower GST rates led to reduced road tax collections and the registration of BH series vehicles also declined.
At the time of the State’s formation, the revenue receipts of the Transport department were only Rs 56 crore. This amount has now grown to approximately Rs 1,600 crore in the financial year 2025-26, they said.
