The Rishikesh police have arrested three people, including the alleged gang leader Jagjeet alias Jagga, under the Gangster Act for their alleged involvement in extortion, assault and blackmailing. Police said that the gang was active in Rishikesh and targeted people involved in land and family disputes.
The police arrested Jagjeet (39) along with Pranav alias Raghav Batra (20) and Deepesh Kumar (27) on Sunday. Another accused, Ravi Gupta, is wanted in the case and police are conducting raids to arrest him.
Police also recovered a board carrying the words “King of Uttarakhand” from Jagjeet’s house. Officials said that he used the board to create fear and influence people. Police said that Jagjeet and his associates allegedly threatened people, assaulted them and demanded money while interfering in land and family disputes. They also allegedly threatened to make photos and videos of people public to blackmail them.
The action was taken after police found that 11 criminal cases had been registered against Jagjeet and his associates between 2016 and 2026. Police said that the gang had created fear among local residents, who were hesitant to approach the police.
