Two men have been booked by Nehru Colony police for allegedly cheating a Dehradun resident of Rs 12.38 lakh while claiming to have influence in the Health department and threatening him when he demanded his money back.
As per the FIR, complainant Chandan Singh Rawat said he met Atul Ghughtyal last year. Ghughtyal allegedly claimed to work in the Health Directorate and said he had strong links with senior officials. He later introduced Rawat to Prakash Mehra, also known as Prakash Negi, who allegedly claimed to be an NHM director.
The two allegedly promised to get Rawat’s pending work done in the Health department, secretariat and other government offices. Rawat said that he paid them Rs 6.50 lakh in cash in the presence of witnesses. He later transferred another Rs 5.88 lakh to a bank account. Of the total Rs 12.38 lakh, only Rs 2 lakh was returned, leaving Rs 10.38 lakh outstanding, the FIR stated.
Rawat claimed that Ghughtyal threatened to kill him when he demanded his money back. He further claimed that the accused may have cheated others in Uttarakhand. The Nehru Colony police have registered the case and started an investigation into the matter.
