The Premnagar police arrested two private educational institution students with 8.73 grammes of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) near Paundha in Premnagar on Wednesday, after receiving information about their plan to sell the drug to students at a higher price, police said.

The accused were identified as Adil Mon (22) and Sabir Ali (25). Both are from Kerala and were staying in the Thakurpur Road area of Premnagar, the police said.

During checking, the team stopped two men near Paundha and searched them. It recovered 4 grams of MDMA from Adil and 4.73 grammes from Sabir, according to the police.

The police registered a case against the two accused under Sections 8, 22 and 37 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Premnagar police station.

During questioning, the accused told the police that they had bought the MDMA at a low price. They planned to sell it to students of educational institutions at a higher price, the police said.

The police said the accused were involved in drug trafficking to earn money for their expensive lifestyles. Their alleged plan to sell MDMA among students has raised concern as educational institutions are increasingly being targeted as potential markets for synthetic drugs. The police also said they received information about other people involved in drug trafficking during questioning.
