Two-day spell of rain and thunderstorms to start today

Even as temperatures remain above normal in the plains and normal in the mountains, the weather in the State is set to take a turn for about two days from Saturday. The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty wind (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar and Almora districts today. The centre has further forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar ,Pithoragarh district and isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar and Almora districts today. Very light to light snowfall is also likely to occur in places situated at altitudes of 4,000 metres and above in the aforementioned districts. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. Thunder cloud development / very light rain are likely to occur in some areas towards the evening/night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 36 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
State meteorological centre director Bikram Sing said that rain is likely in most parts of the State on Sunday. The weather will start clearing from Monday. Another weather system is expected on April 19 and 20, about which more will be known later, he added.
The maximum and minimum temperatures reported on Friday were 35.9 degrees Celsius and 17.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 36.2 degrees Celsius and 14.1 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 24.4 degrees Celsius and 9.8 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 24.6 degrees Celsius and 10.1 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
