Two children drowned in the Alaknanda river at Devprayag on Sunday after a child jumped into the river to save his younger brother. Their bodies were not recovered by late Monday evening till the time of filing this report.
According to official sources the local police called the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) after getting information about two brothers- Abhishek (8) and Aadesh (12) had drowned in the river but the team could not find their bodies despite carrying out search operation for hours on Sunday as well as on Monday. The officials informed that four children went to play near the river on Sunday evening when Abhishek’s foot slipped and he fell into the river. The children who had accompanied them told the police that Abhsihek’s older brother Aadesh started walking nearby the river to save him but they could not see him after some time. The officials said that the search operation will be continued on Tuesday too.
