Two houses collapse in Doon’s Kargi Grant due to rainfall

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Considerable rainfall led to the collapse of two houses built along the river bank in Dehradun’s Kargi Grant area on Sunday.
The incident caused panic in the locality but as soon as the control room received the information, police personnel from Patelnagar Police Station and teams from the Fire Service rushed to the site and began rescue and relief operations, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said.
He also arrived at the scene with other police officers to assess the situation firsthand. He issued necessary instructions to the on-ground teams and emphasised crowd control and safety measures. Singh informed that keeping public safety in mind, police evacuated 10 nearby houses and relocated residents to safer locations. He stated that although no casualties were reported, the incident caused significant structural damage.
Besides the two houses that collapsed, two adjacent homes developed visible cracks. The damaged houses belonged to Shahid Ansari, and Shaheed Idrishi, both residents of Kargi Grant near Madina Masjid. The houses with structural cracks belonged to Gulzar Ansari and Mustakeem, son of Shahjahan.
The SSP said that to manage the crowd and prevent any further mishaps, a contingent of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) has been deployed at the site. Authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely as rain continues to pose risks in the area, he added.
