Two young men were killed and one sustained injuries in a road accident in Roorkee, Haridwar on Monday. The accident reportedly occurred due to dense fog that led to a collision between a car and a brick-laden tractor-trolley on the Manglaur-Haridwar bypass near Nagla Imarti village. The crash claimed the lives of two young men from Bihar and left the car’s driver critically injured. The injured driver was referred to Meerut for advanced medical care, while the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem, the officials said. They informed that the car was traveling from Delhi to Haridwar when it rammed into the rear of the slow-moving tractor-trolley.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was completely damaged, leaving its occupants trapped inside. Two passengers, identified as Vikas Kumar (24) and Prince Kumar (22), both residents of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, died on the spot. The car driver, Sagar, a resident of Najafgarh, Delhi, was rescued and rushed to the hospital in Roorkee before being referred to Meerut for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries. They informed that following the accident, the tractor-trolley driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
The police have seized both the car and the tractor-trolley and initiated an investigation into the incident. The officials said that preliminary inquiries revealed that the car initially had five occupants, including the driver. Two passengers disembarked in Meerut, leaving Vikas and Prince in the vehicle as it continued toward Haridwar. The police managed to contact the families of the deceased through their belongings and mobile phones recovered from the crash site. The officials said that fog is being considered one of the reasons of the accident but further investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the accident and locate the absconding tractor-trolley driver.
