The police arrested two men on Thursday on charges of murdering their father Balveer Rana in Bedula village of Rudraprayag district. The officials informed that crime came to light on Thursday morning when the brothers, Amit Rana and Manish Rana attempted to cremate the body near a ghat.
According to officials, the two sons killed their father on Wednesday night following a heated argument at their home in Kalimath Valley’s Bedula village, under Guptkashi police station jurisdiction. The brothers reportedly used a heavy stick to fatally attack their father. The next morning, they reportedly carried the body near the ghat to dispose of it. The officials said that some villagers noticed smoke rising from the cremation site on Thursday morning and approached the brothers. When questioned, the brothers reacted aggressively, hurling abuses at the onlookers.
Alarmed, the villagers informed the police. However, by the time officers arrived, the body had already been almost entirely burnt. The officials claimed that both men have confessed to the crime. They claimed that their father had been physically abusive toward them during their childhood, which led to a deep resentment that eventually culminated in the murder. One of the accused, Amit, works in Mumbai and had returned to the village just three days before the incident. The officials said that the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken accordingly.
