The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the law and order situation in the State has become so pathetic that the criminals of other States have made Uttarakhand a safe haven for them. Interacting with the media persons at the State headquarters of the Congress party here on Wednesday the PCC president said that a series of recent incidents in the capital Dehradun and their mishandling by the Police recently gives an insight to the prevailing law and order situation of the State.
Mahara said that in the Vijay Vatsallya murder case, the Vatsallya family has levelled serious allegations on the BJP leader Neha Sharma. He said that the father of Vijay has stated that the death of his son occurred under suspicious conditions and his body was cremated in haste by wife of Vijay and BJP leader Neha Sharma. He said that the BJP leader has also threatened the family of Vijay Vatsallya. The PCC president said that the father of the deceased and his family members went from pillar to post for 44 days to get the FIR in the case registered. The Police have not taken any action yet in the case. Narrating another incident Mahara said that on February 15, a youth Tejender Singh was attacked by some people in which he was critically injured and was hospitalised for a week. On the complaint of Singh Police registered a case but cases were registered under weak sections. He added that the Police also registered a case of SC ST and harassment on Singh on the basis of a counter FIR registered by the culprits. The PCC president added that the recent Ansal Green Valley incident clearly shows how bad things are in Dehradun. He said that in this case a mob led by Councillor Poonam Nautiyal attacked the house of one Praveen Bharadwaj who is the secretary of the society. Bharadwaj was opposing the illegal encroachment on Society Park. Mahara claimed that four other councillors belonging to the BJP were Nautiyal who is a close aide of the cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi. He said that only two constables were sent to the spot where a mob of 50-60 people attacked the house of Bharadwaj. Mahara said that the Police registered cases on the BJP councillors only after the incident was reported in the media and its videos went viral.
The PCC president said that the attack on a Police constable by the mining mafia also shows that the morale of the criminals is high in Dehradun. He said that instead of taking note of these incidents the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is busy touring the districts.
