U’khand Cong pays tributes to Pant on anniversary

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara paid rich tributes to the first chief minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and recipient of Bharat Ratna Govind Ballabh Pant on his 135th birth anniversary on Saturday. Remembering Pant, the PCC president said that he was a famous politician, social reformer, able administrator, lawyer, very popular personality and was responsible for laying the foundation of the modern UP. He said that Pant worked in many ways for the upliftment of poor, Dalit, backward and downtrodden sections of the society.
Remembering Pant, Mahara said that he became active in social work while practicing law in Almora and Ranikhet and was responsible for creation of Kumaon Parishad by which he obliterated a very inhuman tradition of ‘Kuli Begar’. Pant took a plunge in active politics on the call given by Mahatma Gandhi.
On Saturday the Congress leaders and workers offered floral tributes to G B Pant on his birth anniversary. Chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni, general secretary Navin Joshi, Rajendra Shah and others were present on the occasion.
