U’khand Congress pays tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru on birth anniv

Glowing tributes were paid to the first prime minister of the country Jawaharlal Nehru by the Congressmen of the State on his birth anniversary on Monday. The Uttarakhand Congress organised seminars, meetings and Yatra (Second phase of Bharat Jodo Yatra) in different parts of the State. In a programme held at the headquarters of the State unit of the party, the Congress leaders offered floral tributes to Nehru.
Paying tributes, the former chief minister Harish Rawat said that Nehru was in favour of social justice, democracy, mutual prosperity and equal rights in the resources of the country. He showed the path of keeping the country united and combating the political power of the divisive ideologies.
Rawat said that Nehru initiated the non aligned movement (NAM) and put India in a leadership role at global level. He said that 12 ideas of Nehru have their role in Bharat Nirman today.
Speaking on the occasion, the former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal said that we are indebted to Nehru for the sacrifice he made for the country, role in freedom struggle and laying the foundation of a progressive, secular and modern India. He said that the concept of Panchsheel given by him is still remembered. Nehru was instrumental in giving a new direction to democracy by his experiments with socialism, planning and democracy in the history of parliamentary democracy. Godiyal said that the first PM played a key role in laying a strong foundation of industrial development in the country. He said that Nehru had put forward a new model of development and till today he is considered a father of mixed economy.
The Congress leaders also visited the Nehru ward in the old Jail campus on the occasion and paid homage to the leader.
The Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana, general secretary Naveen Joshi, Manish Nagpal, Godavri Thapli and others were present on the occasion.
