U’khand gears up for Khel Mahakumbh 2026 Mukhyamantri Championship Trophy

The Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal department is preparing for the Khel Mahakumbh 2026 Mukhyamantri Championship Trophy, scheduled to take place in Uttarakhand from September 1 to October 30, 2026. The department’s director Deepti Singh has issued a detailed action plan and has asked cooperation from all related departments to ensure the event’s success.

According to officials, the Khel Mahakumbh will be organised through various sports competitions at different levels which includes Nyay Panchayat, Vidhan Sabha, Lok Sabha and the State level.

 The Nyay Panchayat level local public representative sports competitions will be held from September 1 to 10. This will be followed by the Vidhan Sabha level MLA Championship Trophy competitions from September 11 to 20. At the Lok Sabha level, the MP Championship Trophy competitions will be organised from September 21 to 30. The State-level Mukhyamantri Championship Trophy competitions are scheduled to take place from September 10 to October 30.

Officials said that at the Nyay Panchayat level, competitions such as Kabaddi, athletics, Kho-Kho and Murga Jhapat will be organised for boys and girls in the under-14 and under-19 categories. At the Vidhan Sabha level, competitions like volleyball and Pittu will be organised through direct participation and selection from the Nyay Panchayat level. At the parliamentary constituency level, sports competitions including Mallakhamb, tug of war, Goli (marbles), football and badminton will be organised based on selection from the Vidhan Sabha level.

They added that, additionally, at the State level, various competitions will be held in sports such as judo, boxing, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, basketball, hockey, handball, Yogasana, swimming, archery, fencing, wrestling, pencak silat, powerlifting, weightlifting, baseball and lawn tennis, with participation based on direct and Assembly-level selection. There will also be scheduled competitions for the women’s open category and the Divyangjan (differently-abled) men’s and women’s open categories.

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the objective of organising the Khel Mahakumbh is to encourage sports talent among the State’s youth, provide a better platform for talent from rural and remote areas and offer players the opportunity to participate in State- and National-level competitions.
