For the proposed visit of the Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on August 19-20, Dehradun police have stepped up security across the district. Police also conducted a flag march in Doiwala and the Cantonment area with paramilitary forces on Tuesday. Senior police officers briefed the personnel deployed for the VVIP programme and instructed them to remain alert throughout the event.
A traffic plan has also been prepared for August 19 and 20 in view of the VP’s visit. On August 19, the traffic plan will remain in effect from 1 PM to 3:30 PM. On August 20, it will be implemented in two time slots — from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM and from 12 PM to 3 PM. Police said that commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow traffic directions during these hours.
Vehicles coming from Rishikesh towards Dehradun city will be diverted from Ranipokhari-Bhogpur through Thano, Chhe Number Pulia, Sahastradhara Crossing and Survey Chowk before entering the city. Vehicles heading towards Mussoorie will be routed from Sahastradhara Crossing through IT Park and Sai Mandir towards Mussoorie.
Additional director general of police (Law and Order) V Murugesan instructed police personnel to reach their duty points three hours before the scheduled start of the programme.He said that intensive checking has also been started at district borders and on internal roads to identify suspicious people and vehicles. Residents of high-rise buildings along the VVIP route will also be verified. Bomb detection and dog squad teams will check the route, water tanks, flyovers and other important locations.
Drone operations have been prohibited at and around the VVIP programme venue. Only authorised persons and vehicles will be allowed to enter the venue after thorough checking and frisking, he added.
