U’khand has a great potential in fish culture- CM Dhami

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the State has a great potential in the sector of fish culture and arrangement of proper marketing should be made to promote it. He took a review meeting of the department of fisheries in the State secretariat on Monday. In the meeting the CM said that the officers should ensure that the farmers of the State receive maximum benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in the State. He said that five targets have been set up for promoting fish culture in the State and they should be completed in a time bound manner with a focussed approach. He said that efforts should be made to increase the production to meet the demand of the fish in the State. Dhami said that every department should ensure that works in it are done by use of science and technology and latest techniques should be used in the works.
He said that the schemes with 90 per cent share of the union government should be given priority. The CM said that the necessary action should be taken for setting up State level integrated aqua Park in Udham Singh Nagar soon. He said that the construction of ponds would promote aquaculture and help in water conservation.
The minister Saurabh Bahuguna said that ponds are being constructed in Dungari village of Pithoragarh on the basis of cluster approach. He disclosed that the department is also working on angling tourism. The minister said that market linkage and development of cold chain is needed to promote fish culture in the State. He said that trout farming is being promoted in the State and more than 40 cooperative committees are engaged in trout farming in the State. The minister said that he conducted a study tour of Australia, New Zealand and Singapore to find best practices in the field of animal husbandry, fish culture and dairy. The minister added that a request was made to the government of Australia to provide assistance to the State in adoption of training and skill development for modern sheep rearing techniques.
The secretary, fisheries, BVRC Purushottam said that two thousand people are directly associated with fish culture in the state. He informed that a plan to develop 40 angling sides in the State is being made. The secretary said that a provision of Rs 71.03 crore has been made in the PMMSY in the State for the year 2021-22.
The additional chief secretaries Radha Raturi, Anand Bardhan, secretary Shailesh Bagauli, additional secretary Arunendra Chauhan and others were present on the occasion.
