Sports minister Rekha Arya has written a letter to chief secretary Radha Raturi, stating that this year’s Republic Day tableaux set for January 26 in every district across the State should be themed around the 38th National Games. Arya said that the main theme of the tableaux during Republic Day parades should be ’38th National Games: Hosting Uttarakhand’.
She specified that the symbols of the National Games, including the mascot, the torch lightning, the logo and the National Games anthem, should be featured in the tableaux across all districts. Considering this, she has written a letter to CS for this. This initiative aims not only to encourage sports but also to promote a sports culture in the state, she said.
On Thursday, Arya reviewed the entire programme for the opening ceremony of the 38th National Games with senior officials. During the meeting, she instructed them to ensure that the event serves as a model for the future. She emphasised that the ceremony should prominently highlight the fact that it marks the silver jubilee year of the establishment of the state. Additionally, a showcase of the sports facilities developed in Uttarakhand should be part of the opening ceremony. She said that despite being a mountainous and relatively small state, Uttarakhand is proud to host all events of the National Games within its borders and this achievement should also be reflected in the opening ceremony.
Arya also informed that the equipment for most sports events has already arrived, and the remaining equipment will reach the venues by January 20. Additionally, she instructed officials to include the laying of the foundation stone for the proposed Sports University in the inauguration ceremony.
