The Higher Education department has decided to implement the system of online digital evaluation of answer sheets in the government colleges and universities. Terming the decision as an important reform in the examination system of colleges and universities of the State, the Higher Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the answer sheets for all university examinations will now be evaluated using the On Screen Marking (OSM) system.

This will make the evaluation process more transparent, faster and error-free. The minister stated that this decision was made in light of the current challenges facing universities including the lack of transparency in the traditional and physical evaluation system, delays in re-evaluation and handling of answer sheets. He added that instructions have been issued to all State universities to evaluate examinations through the on-screen digital evaluation system starting in the current semester (January 2026).

“The effective implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 and the introduction of the semester system has increased the pressure on universities and affiliated colleges for examination work. The digital evaluation system will now automate the entire process, reducing manual intervention. The digital evaluation will further increase teacher participation enabling them to conduct evaluations from their own educational institutions ensuring that regular academic activities on college and university campuses are not disrupted. Furthermore, digital records of answer sheets will be preserved, making future re-evaluation issues easier to resolve,’’ he said.

The minister said that necessary technical resources and training will be provided to staff for effective implementation of the new system.
