The HPV vaccination campaign in Udham Singh Nagar district will be conducted till May 31 for girls aged between 14 and 15 years. Chief Medical Officer Dr KK Aggarwal said that the district has received 17,380 doses from the State.
Sixteen session sites have been identified in the district, where vaccination will be administered under the supervision of trained health workers. He explained that HPV infection is a major cause of cervical cancer and effective prevention of this disease is possible through timely vaccination.
District immunisation officer Dr DP Singh and deputy district immunisation officer Pradeep Meher stated that cold chain arrangements, trained staff and necessary medical management have been ensured at all session sites.
The campaign was formally launched at Pandit Ram Sumer Shukla Government Medical College, in which public representatives, doctors, students and parents were present. The vaccine was administered to a number of girls who also appealed to other girls to take the vaccine.
