Anganwadi workers wrote to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, expressing their concerns over the deduction of 10 days’ honorarium. This deduction had been made despite prior assurances from the State government to the contrary, they wrote.
Informing this on Thursday, the president of the Anganwadi Workers Association, Rekha Negi said that they had requested the CM through the letter to accept their demand for an increased honorarium. “Anganwadi workers have been on strike for a month on the same demand. Previously, after receiving assurances from the CM, the workers postponed their protest, trusting that the government would uphold its commitments. However, the government chose to deduct 10 days’ payment from their honorarium amount,” she added.
She further informed that the postponement of the strike had followed a meeting attended by CM Dhami, personnel secretary Shailesh Bagauli and secretary Chandresh Yadav among others.
“We have laid emphasis in the letter on the State government’s loss of credibility after senior officials backed down on their earlier assurances. The CM should take note of this and take appropriate action,” she said.
She warned that if the deducted amounts are not paid back and the honorarium is not increased soon, her organisation would be compelled to resume protests, rejecting government nutrition trackers and other schemes. “The government will bear the consequences and not us,” Negi added.
