USAC maps State for silk development

Space technology has a vital role in ensuring integrated development of the Himalayan region along with environmental balance. National Remote Sensing Centre director Prakash Chauhan said this at a workshop organised by Uttarakhand Space Application Centre on remote sensing and GIS in silk production development. He said that in space technology, India is today working along with NASA and European Space Agency. The mapping of potential areas for silk production done by USAC will help the sericulture department identify areas with potential for more silk production, he said.
Earlier, USAC director MPS Bisht said that the use of space technology is proving very beneficial for the conservation of natural resources in Uttarakhand. He said that the workshop had been organised to share information about the works done under the project undertaken with financial support from North-East Space Application Centre, Shillong, with the State’s Silk department along with other linear departments and their beneficiaries.
