Two die and 13 hospitalised with injuries following bus accident in Dehradun

A man and a school student died and 14 people sustained injuries in a bus accident in Singhniwala near Shimla Bypass in Dehradun on Monday afternoon. One of the injured is in the ICU and undergoing tests, 12 others are hospitalised while one woman was discharged after primary treatment of minor injuries, the police said.
The accident occurred when a bus travelling from Vikasnagar to Dehradun reportedly collided with an oncoming loader vehicle and overturned, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that after receiving information through the emergency helpline 112, a police team from Sahaspur reached the site of the accident and began rescue operations with the assistance of local residents. The injured were pulled out of the damaged vehicle and transported to Graphic Era Hospital for treatment. Doctors at the hospital declared two people dead, Pawan (22), a resident of Shekhowala, Sahaspur and Qadil (16), a student from Hasanpur, Sahaspur.
The SSP said that as per the initial inquiry, there were several students on the bus who were returning home after school. Among the injured were six minors, seven men and one woman. One of the injured women received minor injuries and was discharged after primary treatment, while 13 others are still under medical care at the hospital. The injured include Jagmohan Singh (30), Pintu Kumar (35), Mansi Gupta (15), bus conductor Gurmeet (21), Kanija Khatoon (60), Nasibuddin (62), Avesh (15), Maria (15), Huma (16), Musida (15), Harsh (2), Vinod Verma (35), Shoaib (18) and Shilpa (24), who was discharged after treatment.
The SSP also visited the hospital to meet the injured students and other victims. He informed that he spoke with the doctors to understand the medical condition of each injured person and directed officials to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident. The chief medical officer Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma also visited the hospital to check on the condition of the patients. He instructed the hospital’s medical superintendent to ensure immediate and necessary treatment to the injured on a priority basis. Authorities said that the cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
