PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal, has taken cognisance of the brutal murder of a woman in Askot, Pithoragarh, where a husband allegedly hacked his wife to death with an axe.
Kandwal informed that she spoke with the Dharchula police circle officer regarding this heinous crime and obtained detailed information about the circumstances of the incident and the police actions taken so far. She directed the police administration to conduct a prompt and transparent investigation into this gruesome murder case, urging that strict action be taken against the accused and that he receives the harshest punishment.
According to reports, the husband committed this brutal act out of anger over his wife’s alleged illicit relationship with another man. Taking a strong stance on this matter, Kandwal stated that taking someone’s life over alleged illicit relationships is a gross violation of the law and an inhumane act.
Kandwal emphasised that considering violence as a solution to marital or family disputes reflects a narrow and criminal mindset. Violence is not a solution to any problem and those who take the law into their own hands will face severe consequences.
She appealed to citizens to cooperate fully in maintaining law and order and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands under any circumstances. The severity of justice should be such that it compels any potential criminal to think twice before resorting to such actions in the future, she said.
