USCW to direct DMs to ensure guest registration registers

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) chairperson Kusum Kandwal said that the commission will instruct all district magistrates in the State to ensure that a register is maintained for all individuals checking in and out of hotels, guest houses, night rest houses or any other place of accommodation. This measure aims to ensure regular monitoring of such entries. Kandwal said this in view of the recent incident in Dehradun, where a young man, dressed in religious attire was apprehended under suspicious circumstances with a minor girl in a guest house.

Kandwal said that the recent incident occurred in a guest house near Shimla Bypass in Dehradun, where the young man was found in inappropriate circumstances with a minor. Officials discovered objectionable chats and various videos of young girls on his mobile device. Kandwal took cognisance of the situation and described it as very serious. She has asked for a detailed report from the police and issued directives for the safety of the minor girl, including counselling and support for her family.

She emphasised that negligence at any level will not be tolerated in cases involving minors. The USCW chief directed the superintendent of police to take strict action against the accused, conduct a forensic examination of the digital evidence and investigate the guest house management’s involvement. She also instructed that guest houses must strictly enforce identity card verification and maintain proper entry registers to prevent similar incidents in the future.

She highlighted the seriousness of the situation, stating that some members of a particular community are reportedly luring innocent girls and subjecting them to heinous crimes, which is condemnable. Kandwal asserted that action must be taken against all those involved and the commission will closely monitor the case to ensure justice for the victim.
