The authorities will find a permanent solution to the recurring landslides at Jogidhara on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway, for which an inspection will be carried out soon. The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) additional chief executive officer (Administration) Anand Swarup said this while chairing a review meeting regarding the damage caused by monsoon and preparations for the Kanwad Yatra here on Friday. Seeking information about the roads blocked during the ongoing monsoon, Swarup also checked the landslide affected areas using GIS. He said that the landslide areas which have been treated in the past should be monitored regularly by the department concerned to ensure timely repair of any broken fencing or other issues. Regarding the Kanwad Yatra, he discussed the preparations being undertaken by the districts concerned with USDMA experts. He sought detailed reports regarding the capacity of medical camps, availability of resources for tackling waterlogging, security arrangements in various Ghats and arrangements for toilets. Additional CEO (Implementation) Rajkumar Negi informed that the police and Haridwar district administration’s SOPs for the Kanwad Yatra have been studied. The USDMA is coordinating with the districts involved for the successful conduct of the Yatra, he said.

Meanwhile, Swarup said that USDMA will monitor the Kanwad Yatra using drones. He said that the authority has received drone pilots. The drones will be used on the Kanwad Yatra route and prominent locations to monitor the situation. The drones will also be used to keep an eye on disaster affected areas and situations like landslides and floods.
