UTC workers threaten to intensify ongoing agitation if pending salaries delayed further

Roadways Karmchari Sanyukt Parishad (RKSP), Dehradun division president Mukesh Naithani has threatened that the ongoing agitation will be intensified if pending salaries of workers of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) are not released soon.

UTC workers including drivers, conductors and others, mainly of Dehradun under the banner of the RKSP have been staging agitation for the last few days outside the regional transport office of UTC over non-payment of salaries for June and July.

Informing about the current scenario of the protest, Naithani said workers have not received salaries for the said two months. The delay has hit them financially, with many facing difficulty in paying school fees of their children and running households, he said. He further said that for the last few days they have been protesting outside the regional UTC office from 10 AM to 12 PM. Naithani said that instead of all the workers, only some workers are protesting so that work is not hampered and income of the corporation is not affected.

He claimed that two to four workers have recently received salaries for June only. Salary for July has not been released to them even though August has begun. They will continue to protest till pending salaries are released and future salaries are paid on time, he said.

Naithani added that the agitation will continue on Monday also as per the scheduled time outside the UTC regional office. No official concerned of UTC has communicated with them, he added.

It may be recalled that UTC general manager (Operations) Kranti Singh earlier told The Pioneer that the lean season is underway, due to which the income of the corporation has declined.  He said that UTC is a self-earning corporation and has to bear its expenses on its own.  However, the process of releasing salaries in a phased manner has commenced.
