Valley of Flowers set to open on June 1

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the fabled Valley of Flowers-the alpine meadows nestled in the Himalayas in Chamoli district-is all set to open to the tourists on June 1 and will remain open till October 30. The thrill of this trek to this World Heritage Site starting from Ghangaria lures people from across the world. The Valley of Flowers, flanked by a number of peaks and glaciers, is rich in biological diversity and over 500 species of exotic flowers bloom here.
The first trekking team will leave Ghangaria in the morning on June 1 and will return to the base camp the same evening. The trekkers can stay the night at Ghangaria, said the principal chief conservator of forest B B Matolia and added that trekking fee for domestic tourists is Rs 200 while that for the foreign tourists is Rs 800.
